Tools for success, opportunities to learn
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE | 14 APRIL 2025

The Law Society of NSW takes great pride in providing high-quality discounted (and often free) professional development opportunities for our members. As you may know, one of my President’s Priorities this term is ensuring the delivery of exceptional support for solicitors’ career success.

This support is not limited to sessions on black-letter law, though they are crucially important. We are keeping the profession updated on issues essential to practice, like Gen AI and the incoming anti-money laundering regime. We provide wellbeing resources, including through our popular Staying Well in the Law series.

If you’re a practice leader, we know you want tools to help you run your business. If you’re an early career lawyer, you want the skills that can help you bring the best value you can to your work.

The Law Society is fortunate to have secured the services of an expert to help practitioners improve productivity through the use of technology.

So far this year, productivity professional Mario Halouvas has brought his captivating presentations to the Central Coast ‘CPD by the Sea’ day last month, and the Law Students’ Career Summit.

On Friday 2 May, Mario will join a stellar array of presenters at the Wollongong and District Law Society’s CPD by the Shore. More about that event below, but I’m also pleased to announce that over the next eight months starting on Wednesday 7 May, Mario will present eight separate virtual sessions that he says will "empower individuals to navigate their professional endeavours with unwavering confidence and a sense of fulfilment”.

The first session called Peak Performance Productivity will aim to transform your daily habits into achievements that will help your productivity soar. Others will concentrate on getting the most out of your Microsoft Office tools, like Teams, and Gen AI platform Copilot. Best of all, these sessions are free for members.

You can register for Peak Performance Productivity here.

Wollongong & District Regional Visit - CPD by the Shore

Along with Mario Halouvas’ productivity session, this great CPD program features sessions on risk management, wellbeing, updates on the ethical aspects of using Gen AI and the incoming anti-money laundering/counter terrorism financing regime. Importantly for sole practitioners, there’s a session on succession and contingency planning for law practices.

Spaces are limited, so I encourage you to register here as soon as you can.

I’ll also be honoured to join the new President of the Wollongong & District Law Society, Elisa Shain, at the Young Justice event at the University of Wollongong and Senior Vice President, Natalee Davis at the CPD conference and networking dinner.
